Some interesting news from Forbes.com about Ritek and other media companies trying to negotiate a cut in royalties to the DVD+RW alliance.
"TAIPEI (AFX) - Ritek Corp (2349.TW) and other Taiwan digital versatile disc (DVD) makers are in talks with the DVD+RW alliance for cuts in royalties, with a projected decline to 0.04 usd from the original plan of 0.06 usd, the Economic Daily News reported, without citing sources.
The DVD+RW alliance includes Royal Philips Electronics NV and Dell Inc, among others.
Taiwan DVD makers such as CMC Magnetics Corp (2323.TW) and Ritek are expected to benefit from such royalty reductions, it said.
Ritek said royalty talks with the alliance have yet to be concluded, the daily added."
We can only hope that this means the possibility of cheaper media for the general public and we will keep you posted about the outcome.
