I keep getting the following error. I'm using single layer media, setting for DVD5. I've set cache all - and then it goes 'plop'! 01/01/2005 01:34:29 info ********** Report session closed *********** 01/01/2005 01:34:21 error Image file modified. 01/01/2005 01:34:21 info Open Image file "K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\COPYTODVD_01012005_013046_593.iso" 01/01/2005 01:34:21 info Available sector size : 2298496 01/01/2005 01:34:20 info Media ID: RITEKG04 01/01/2005 01:34:19 info 120mm DVD Single Layer 01/01/2005 01:34:19 info Detected media $0011: DVD-R 01/01/2005 01:30:46 warning Layer Break is around 00:57:57, optimal value can't be set within the possible range of [1120448..1149248]. 01/01/2005 01:30:46 info 120mm DVD Single Layer 01/01/2005 01:30:46 info Detected media $0011: DVD-R 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info Finished browsing files - Data size 4.27 Gb. 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info Start Browsing file structures 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info IDE Controler manufacturer : VIA Technologies, Inc. 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info IDE Controler Description : VIA Bus Master IDE Controller 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info Supported Media: DVD-R, DVD-RW Seq., DVD-RW RO, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info Writing device used: 2:0:0 - DVDRW IDE1004 0051 [D] (Ide) 01/01/2005 01:30:45 info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.27, Internal revision 27 - Async. looks like it could be a bad rip, what did you use to rip the movie? Try to rip again, see what happens

Thanks for the reply. The rip was made using DVD decrypter/DVD Shrink. I have two DVD writers on my system - one single layer (D), and one dual layer (E). If I use a +RW in either drive I get a valid disc made. A -R in the (D) drive works fine. But, a single layer disc -R in the (E) drive gives a warning about layer break. Since it all fits onto one layer I don't think that this warning should be happening (in fact an earlier bug fix was to get rid of this). The (E) drive was set to DVD5 using the selector at the bottom of the screen. I wonder if there is something about the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B that the current software doesn't like. By way of further tests I totally removed all the DVD writting software, and put a copy of Nero, and also a copy of Pinnacle copy DVD in. Both these pieces of software write the discs ok. Below is a cut/paste of the log, from bottom up (D) and +RW, (E) and +RW, (D) and -R, (E) and -R. In all these 4 cases I stopped the process as soon as the files began to be cached. - and that reminds me - If I specify my own temporary folder instead of leaving 'Automatic temporary folder', that produces the failure I noted before about the 'image file modifed' and the write stopping. __________________________________________________________ 01/01/2005 19:19:13 info ********** Report session closed *********** 01/01/2005 19:19:10 info 120mm DVD Single Layer 01/01/2005 19:19:10 info Detected media $0011: DVD-R 01/01/2005 19:19:10 critical Process cancelled 01/01/2005 19:18:53 warning Layer Break is around 00:57:57, optimal value can't be set within the possible range of [1120448..1149248]. 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info 120mm DVD Single Layer 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Detected media $0011: DVD-R 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Finished browsing files - Data size 4.27 Gb. 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Start Browsing file structures 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info IDE Controler manufacturer : VIA Technologies, Inc. 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info IDE Controler Description : VIA Bus Master IDE Controller 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Supported Media: DVD-R, DVD-RW Seq., DVD-RW RO, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW, DL DVD+R 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Writing device used: 0:1:0 - TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B TS05 [E] (Scsi) 01/01/2005 19:18:53 info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.27, Internal revision 27 - Async. Hi Manc_Brian elcome to our forums and Happy new year! I have studied the log and im wondering if this is an iso mode 'bug' When choosing the output mode in dvd shrink can you try the dvd video file output rather than an iso, and record the video files with copytodvds write dvd video file option? Does the error persist?

Hello there - and compliments of the season. The output from DVD Shrink is separate video files - namely K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.BUP K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.BUP K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0.IFO K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB K:\LIVE_AND_LET_DIE_SKU_1\FILM_ONLY\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB I am using the write DVD video option. I forgot to add in the previous that I am also asking C2DVD to cache all files. The 'image modified' seems to happen when I try to dictate where the temp files should be. If I let C2DVD get on with it, it places its 'iso' files in the same directory as the input video files. I can live with it - I'd just rather have temp files where I want to put them. At least it has the decency to tidy up after itself and delete them when it's finished. But that still leaves the odd 'layer break' issue. Any thoughts? ps The following might help - its the settings I'm using for CopytoDVD: 'WRITING ENGINE' All selcted EXCEPT 'Add "ISO image file" in drive list', and 'Prompt for another copy of the same media' 'FILE SYSTEM' All selected EXCEPT 'Preserve path name', 'CGMS', and 'ISO file version'. 'MULTISESSION' ALL 'WRITING DEVICES' ALL

Well isn't that interesting - well you wouldn't know yet, but let me tell you. I've just used DVD Shrink to create an iso image for film. As I type this Copy2DVD is now happily burning a disc on my drive (E), using -R media, (DVD-R SAO writing mode). Not a bleat at all about layer break! My conclusion is that there is something strange inside C2DVD regarding dual layer capable drives, single media, requesting a write of individual video files, and cache all. (but, in my case, only with -R media [the +RW is fine]). AARRRRGGGGG - I SPOKE TOO SOON. Get a butchers of this! _______________________________________________________ 01/01/2005 22:47:06 info ********** Report session closed *********** 01/01/2005 22:46:58 error Write failed 01/01/2005 22:46:58 info Average speed x1.80 Reference x1 = 1385.00 kbps 01/01/2005 22:46:58 info Total burning time 00:09:27.938 01/01/2005 22:46:56 info Finalizing CD.. 01/01/2005 22:46:55 error WriteSector failed at sector 701344 (32) - Code 05 21 00 [Illegal request, LBA out of range] 01/01/2005 22:37:30 info Starting write buffer 01/01/2005 22:37:30 info Starting to write... 01/01/2005 22:37:30 info Buffer under-run proof enabled 01/01/2005 22:37:30 info DVD-R SAO writing mode selected 01/01/2005 22:37:30 info Writing speed requested x1.0, effective x2.0 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Writing session #1 and closing disc. 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Open Image file "K:\FILM_ONLY.ISO" 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Available sector size : 2298496 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Media ID: RITEKG04 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info 120mm DVD Single Layer 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Detected media $0011: DVD-R 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Using ISO image writing mode. 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Start Browsing file structures 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info IDE Controler manufacturer : VIA Technologies, Inc. 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info IDE Controler Description : VIA Bus Master IDE Controller 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Supported Media: DVD-R, DVD-RW Seq., DVD-RW RO, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW, DL DVD+R 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Writing device used: 0:1:0 - TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B TS05 [E] (Scsi) 01/01/2005 22:37:24 info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.27, Internal revision 27 - Async. Hi Again, I have taken the time to try and find the most common reasons for this 05 ATAPI error . It's a bit long but covers all occuences though it may be that your brand of media is not very good. What brand of G04 have you purchased and do you have any other media to try the same files with? Win NT/2000/XP Users 1. Running Programs Make sure you quit all running background programs, such as anti-virus software. 2. Drive Connection Other devices may be interfering with the CD-R/RW drive. Disconnect all other removable devices, then try recording again. If there is still a problem, try the following. a. Optimal Hardware Configuration All hard drives are placed on the Primary IDE, check that the drives are correctly set as master/slave. CD-ROM/CD-R/RW drives are placed on the Secondary IDE, set the recording drive as the "master". If you are using a USB or IEEE devices, disconnect them. b. Update your chipset Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller, and a brand name controller, e.g. Intel, SIS, VIA, etc. The brand name controller is what needs to be updated. Please visit their website to obtain these updates. c. Configure Windows Make sure that your operating system has been fully updated. Visit the Microsoft website to acquire these updates. 4. DMA Settings Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller. Complete the following procedure: 1. Right click on the Primary IDE controller and select [Properties] from the menu. 2. Select the [Advanced Settings] tab. Check that the [Transfer Mode] for both devices is set to [DMA if available]. 3. Repeat this for Secondary IDE controller. Note: In some cases older CD-ROM drives will not support DMA mode. In that case please set both devices to PIO mode. 5. Disc a. Recording errors often occur when the disc is dirty, or has fingerprints or scratches. If an error occurred during test simulation (before actual recording), clean the disc. If you are getting recording errors, try the following. Use a different blank, recordable disc. Use a different manufacturer's disc. Ensure the disc is clean before recording: Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution. Wipe the disc from the center to the edge of the disc. Dry the disc completely. b. Error during file verification If an error occurred when the files were being verified, record the same files again using a different disc.

I thought I would just say thankyou for all the hardwork people have put in trying to sort out my DVD burning problem. I think things are all ok now. I've rebuilt the pc. The DVD drive was connected by an extra ATA133 PCI adapter card. I've swapped things round and it is now on standard IDE1/master. Also rebuilt ALL the software, and am running 3.0.42.78 The extraneous DL reporting has now gone (I notice it has been recognised as a bug in the previous version). As I said - everything in the garden is lovely - thats why I've taken out a GOLD membership inorder to future proof things. The new DIVX/DVD tool looks as though it will be excellent. Very Happy

You have to be careful about the add-in cards you use, not all of them support opticals, make sure you do thorough reasearch when planning to use one.
