I have produced one Verbatim double layer DVD, using Sonic MyDVD, which plays OK on the NEC writer which created it but it does not work on my Pioneer DVR-106D, my laptop DVD ROM or my standalone Toshiba SD33VB. Scanning the recorded DVD with VSO Inspector reports 55.2% bad sectors. Have downloaded a trial version of CopyToDVD and tried to write another copy from a Video TS folder but get error message "The project might be incompatible to the DVD video standard and may not work." I have tried several other disc image files and always get the same error. By the way, my first Verbatim DVD was replaced under warranty by the supplier as it was reported as unwritable by Sonic, Nero and Infinadyne's CD/DVD diagnostic program. In spite of my discouraging initial experience I bought a 5-pack of Verbatim DL discs from PC World yesterday at £6 a disc, which is encouraging, but I obviously need some advice before I blow my £30 on experimentation!

Hi acbeaton and welcome to the forum. What software are you using to create the original dvd before recording? CopytoDVD will warn u if the DVD structure is not 100% compliant but i found it normally records them fine. I would question your image file creator if things carry on this way. http://www.cdr-zone.com/review/38/verbatim-2.4x-dvd+r-d/l-review.html has my initial results of a verbatim D/l disc which where not encouraging...but since Pioneer have released a firmware which seems to record it fine now. What NEC writer are you using and at what speed are you recording this disc at? have you considered using the Traxdata D/L media to see if that is better for you?

NEC ND-2510A (firmware 2.16) at 2.4x. >have you considered using the Traxdata D/L media to see if that is better for you? Only heard about Traxdata from the review on this site and having just invested another £30 in Verbatim DL discs I'll defer a decision on Traxdata for the meantime. Having said that I was tempted last night to order a Pioneer DVR 108 after reading the review of the Verbatim DL discs here.

You could try the new copytodvd 3.0.32 thats just been released. It has a fix for time mapping issues. The 108 is a mighty fine drive overspeeding a lot of 8x media to 12x by default but don't expect too much at 16x just yet. The NEC 3500 is writing very well if you dont mind trawling through the forums finding the best adjusted firmwares ( i have a review of 3500 to do but am holding back until better 16x support comes out ). If you are happy using upto 8x media i would stick with your NEC 2510A and maybe consider trying the firmware i used in my NEC 2510 review which was overspeeding a lot of 4x media at 8x! - If you want 12x above recording then its pretty even with 108 and 3500 having their plus and minus sides.

I currently use DVDShrink 3.2 CopyToDVD 3.0.30.48 with NEC ND-1100A 4X DVD+R/RW Drive using Verbatim DVD+R DL and never got the Incopattible video format message. I have used these products for a year and haven't had any problems. Of course I upgrade when available. Then I upgraded to the 3.0.32.54 today version of CopyToDVD and the error message appeared. I downgraded back to 3.0.30.48 and now it works again. Thought this could be of some help.

Just burned another movie folder from my HDD using CopyToDVD. Same result as before - plays only on 2510A. Pioneer drive says "Please insert disc", laptop says "Disk not formatted”, Toshiba standalone says "Disc error". VSO Inspector reports 62.7% bad. Note: NEC recommend Verbatim DL and Nero for the 2510. I have the latest version of Nero 6 and am creating a disc image at this moment with Nero Vision Express 2 and will burn it to DVD using Nero Burning. I haven’t used Nero before as I find its interface pretty impenetrable and I have no great hopes of success as I suspect the problem lies elsewhere, but at least if I have followed NEC’s recommendations I can seek their help. The VSO Inspector test of the written disc should give a clue if I knew more about the process. A typical error line in the Scan Report is: “Error reading sector 11198352 to 1198368: Code 05 20 00 [Illegal request, Invalid command opcode]” In the Media report “Content type” is given as “Audio”. Briefly, what I have been doing is copying films and sports events from TV and saving them as MPEG 2 files, editing them with Womble Multimedia MPEG Video Wizard to remove adverts and creating DVD+R DL-type folders, using Sonic MyDVD, on a 120GB hard drive I keep for storing video files and still pictures, then burning them to DVD with MyDVD (and today CopyToDVD).

Well, surprise, surprise, after all the hassle I finally did what NEC recommended and used Nero for burning a 7.43 GB movie in HQ mode - and it plays in all my DVD drives and the standalone. Thank you all for your responses.

i have a nec ND 2510A and 5x traxdata DVD+R DL,none of these disks are recognised by the drive.Well i cant burn them anyway!I have updated to 2.16 firmware on the drive and got lastest version of nero.None of these help. Anyone got any ideas?I think its just the media and the drive dont like the dye(disk info said these dvds are Ritek01)so they are rebadged Riteks. I have tried Nero 6, Roxio dvd burn software and another free dvd burning shareware and nona of these will burn the disks, they all come back with the same errors.Cant burn at 2.4x unrecongnised format/disk errors. Shocked

Hi, fiestazetecturbo, From: primerasports+hypertroniccvt-m6. Smile NEC recommend Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and Nero 6. I managed to burn one good DL disc with Nero (God knows how), which is readable on all my DVD players , but wasted 4. The wasted 4 were all OK on my NEC drive but not compatible with the other drives. Since then I find that Nero have issued updates to correct DL compatibility problems with some drives and to more fully check DL discs before burning. This indicates to me that there are compatibility problems generally. I have updated my Nero software but have run out of DL discs and don't intend to buy any more until I hear that the techochnology is getting sorted out. I think I may ask Nero for my money back, but my usual DVD software package can't handle DL media either, although it claims to.

I have been using the verbatim DL dvd+r disk lately with my sony 710a. The disk come out OK using copy2dvd, but at times nero has trouble with them. its intermentant so I cant put my finger on which program is causing the trouble. I tried using the inspector, but I get errors always on DL disk from that program, so I dont think its ready for DL disk yet. all 27 features seems to be reporting correctly though. Just thought I would pass that along
