That will likely be a monumental task, and may take me several days... Sad

All righty then, here's what i've done, I've got 98SE installed now, McAfee anti-virus, and I've installed the 98SE critical updates which included IE6 and I went ahead and installed DirectX 9.0c beause my motherboard drivers required them, no ASPI layer 4.60 CopytoDVD has it's own optomized access layer so ASPI isn't required unless we are checking something. So now it's on to installing CopytoDVD. You do have your drives set with DMA enabled? With this configuration I am not experiencing the problems you are, so you may want to at least do the critical updates. You'll notice in the bottom block that Windows 98SE is the operating system. The next block up is the writing device and that vso's own access layer is being used not ASPI. The next block show what type of media is being used as you can see I used a cdr, and the last block shows the writing speed and that it is writing and closing the disk. I know it's not much help, but have you got an older writing device just to make sure it's not the Sony 710 and a recognition associated problem. Maybe put it in your friend make sure it's working on 2000, I mean the 710 clearly states windows 2000/XP supported, so this in itself makes it iffy, see if you can switch devices with your friend just to make sure?

chaosmaker - Thank you for all your help! I appreciate it! Yes, DMA enabled all across. I have switched to a known working MSI DR16-B DVD burner, the Sony DRU-710A has been taken off line. I realize that software developers can not anticipate all the various permutations of hardware, software, and users preferences. I have also spent much time honing this particular install of Win98SE to my liking, and I'm not quite ready to make any drastic changes in it to accomodate one app. I had hoped to use CopyToDVD on this PC, which is a dual-boot with Xandros Linux 3.0 also installed. I am slowly making the switch to Linux, and I know there are several burning apps available through Xandros Networks [K3B is one]. But I've used the older gray-screen CopyToDVD occasionally and pretty much liked it. Perhaps VSO will consider a Linux port of this program. That would be nice! Wink
