I have the same problem as you with my HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B (8X) writer (Hitachi-LG) firmware version A203. Tried DVD+R 8x media from Memorex and Sony. Problem, limited to 4X burn speed. Device speed in CopyToDVD settings set to Max. At bottom of CopyToDVD Manager window, 4X is the fastest speed selectable. Actually the fastest I can burn on either media is 2x with the CopyToDVD software. This is with the CopyToDVD3SE software that is bundled with the 1click to dvd copy software which I downloaded and am in the trial offer phase. Roxio software will burn data to either of the mentioned media at 8x. I will watch for suggestions or answers. Thank You. Don

Hi Guys and thank you for the report. VSO are looking into this as we speak so expect a fix soon Smile Do you have a list of media that recordas at correct/incorrect speed from your tests? @Don E, Are you sure you have your DMA switched on? this could explain your 2x max recording. http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/DMA/DMAXP.HTM has a great explanation on how to see if your DMA is on or off Smile

SirQUK, DMA is on. TY8X, TDK8X, Philips8X, media used, all burn at 4X or slower. When I choose CD/DVD Data Disc in CopyToDVD Manager the speed is selectable up to 16X at bottom. In DVD Video mode, selectable speed only goes to 4X at bottom of window. This is the SE ver. that came with 1Click. Thanks, I will watch for an update.

DMA on all IDE channels is "DMA if available". Memorex and Sony 8X DVD+R media burns at 2X or slower. Burning on either of these media with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 burns at 6X to 8X. TDK DVD+R, Sony DVD+R, and Memorex DVD-R 4X Media all burn at a true 4X. Roxio also burns on these 3 media at 4X. Here is a partial printout of my last burn log using Memorex 8x media: 12/27/2004 8:05:54 PM info ********** Report session closed *********** 12/27/2004 8:05:40 PM info Write completed 12/27/2004 8:05:40 PM info Average speed x1.53 Reference x1 = 1385.00 kbps 12/27/2004 8:05:40 PM info Total burning time 00:35:31.579 12/27/2004 7:30:09 PM info Starting write buffer 12/27/2004 7:30:09 PM info Starting to write... 12/27/2004 7:30:09 PM info Buffer under-run proof enabled 12/27/2004 7:30:09 PM info Writing speed requested x8.0, effective x8.0 12/27/2004 7:30:08 PM info Open Image file "C:\Documents and Settings\Don E\Application Data\CopyToDvd\COPYTODVD_12272004_190537_750.cache" 12/27/2004 7:30:07 PM info Available sector size : 2295104 12/27/2004 7:30:07 PM info Media ID: CMC MAG-E01-00 12/27/2004 7:30:07 PM info 120mm DVD Single Layer 12/27/2004 7:30:05 PM info Detected media $001B: DVD+R 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info 120mm DVD Single Layer 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Detected media $001B: DVD+R 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Finished browsing files - Data size 4.27 Gb. 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Start Browsing file structures 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Supported Media: DVD-R, DVD-RW Seq., DVD-RW RO, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-R, CD-RW 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Writing device used: 1:0:0 - HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082B A203 [D] (Ide) 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.24, Internal revision 24 12/27/2004 7:05:37 PM info Using DVD Video creation mode.
