| After I burn a cd or dvd either one my main drive d, even though I only burn on drive e, does not start a cd automagically. I MUST go in and do a restore of my pc to an earlier date, prior to my burning dvd or cd and then it automatically starts again. Makes no sense. I am useing a 16x liteon burner for my dvd and cd burning and my main drive is a hp 4x burner. I dont know how many questions you allow but I am using newest edition of 1click dvd copy and updated today to .39 and I was having problems with 16x verbatim failures so set my burn speed to 8 x instead of the 16x and it burned ok at right around 8x average. However after I downloaded .39 it now burns same dvd at average of 1.32! and lastly if I am not being piggish in questions is there any way to get it to read faster? Thanks |

Hi Ken, Welcome to the forum. 1. Your Recording speed may be to do with your DMA being switched off. Please see this excellent guide to enabling DMA: http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/DMA/DMAXP.HTM 2. Verbatim DVD+R are usually good on any writer, so this leads me to believe that perhaps a firmware update is needed for your writer. What do you have - the 1633? firmware at present? 4. Reading faster - Yes for Dual layer this is possible but you will need to do a lot of reading and a little playing.: Download Omnipatcher from http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers.html Download the latest firmware for your liteon : http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/stock/1633S.BS41.stock.rar Open the firmware in Omnipatcher and tick the 'faster DVD+9 reading' tab. Download (http://codeguys.rpc1.org/patchers/rec_tweak-2-13.zip) and apply the latest recommended tweak file for the best possible Liteon recordings ( thanks codeguys and ) and save the firmware as BS41Fast. Execute the file you have saved from Omnipatcher and then make sure DMA is enabled after a reboot ( see point 1). http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 have an excellent forum dedicated to all these type of things and are an excellent resource for the Liteon user |

| I had done step 1 yesterday however I notice that when 1click dvd copy starts one of the first things I see is "disabling DMA". for number 2. I had called Lite-on tech support and they said they have no firmware updates for the sohw-1613S so of course it must be the media! (I note that now it takes the 16x verbatim over an hour and average speed is 1.6!) a few days ago it was close to 8. But I must note that my TDK 8x dvds are now burning at average of 1.3 speed and that is only when they do not error. I did download the omnipatcher and it appears to run when executed (automagically I would guess as it takes a nano second to flash on my screen and then disappears) I have not been able to get it to execute and have an interface for me to use however so I must be doing something wrong with it. |

Hi Ken It is deffintley a DMA issue, But why one click is disabling DMA is beyond me. This explains the fact that you can only do upto 2x max recording See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx If setting to PIO mode and rebooting then setting back to DMA if available does not get the drive in Ultra DMA Mode 2 then you will need to uninstall the IDE channel and reboot. Windows will then detect and reinstall the IDE channel and the devices that are connected to it. If deleting the IDE channel concerned and rebooting does not correct it then you may need to check in your system bios, some system bios have settings to enable/disable DMA transfers. If everything fails you should contact Microsoft support for assistance in enabling DMA transfers. Of course we are still here to help:) 2. Omnipatcher: The link I sent you from CDFreaks.com have a full official support forum dedicated to Omnipatcher with every possible answer you could need - If anyone knows the reason why it doesn't work they do! BTW, Liteon support obviously behind the times if they didnt know about BS41 ( this is an american release and not a european release so maybe europe don't recognise it as official ) |
