| Anybody tried one of these yet? Managed to create a few Coasters with this last night. Tried all speeds, various Blank DVD's, etc... Anything I write using CopytoDVD is dead, nothing will read it. However, if I write using Nero (6) My PC can read (and play) the disks, but my set-top DVD players still can't read the disks. Any help appreciated. |

Haven't tried any -R yet as I'm a +R fan and don't have any -R yet - ordered some 8x -Rs which should be here Monday, so I can try them then. Set-top DVD boxes are; Yamada (can't remember model number) and 2 Pacific 1002W's PC DVD Drives are; Samsung (DVD-ROM)(can't remember model - old one) NEC 1100A (DVD+R\W) NEC 5100A (Dell laptop DVD+R\W) and the Pioneer 108 Good luck with your new 108 - hope you have more luck than me. |

| Update for you. Managed to get hold of some -R's, wrote one wth CopytoDVD and the 108 and it works in my players fine. Done some searching on the web for the 108 and found www.CDRInfo.com who have done a review on the 108. The review is Here. The important bit is in the book type settings where it says "The Pioneer DVR-108 doesn't support BookType Setting for DVD+R/+RW formats. With DVD+R DL discs, Booktype is automatically set to DVD-ROM." So it looks like I'll have to buy some -R's then. Either that or send back the 108 as it may write to the +R's, but if it's not readable then as far as I'm conscerned this is not a - and + R writer like it's advertised.[/url] |

"The Pioneer DVR-108 doesn't support BookType Setting for DVD+R/+RW formats. With DVD+R DL discs, Booktype is automatically set to DVD-ROM." This is good as imagine writing to your DVD+RW as DVD-ROM and then trying to erase it afterwards. The auto DVD+R D/L to DVD_ROM bitsetting is again useful for compatibility in some standalone DVD Players. I have read the very informative review over at our friends CDR-Info, but they will be the first to tell you that newer firmware should improve media compat - this is again normal procedure for any Pioneer drive release - i remember the 106 taking 3 weeks to get a very good range of media compatibility. Im glad you got copytodvd working and playing fine with DVD-R, but mine is working on +R too. I think it is a case of wait for the next firmware for media compatiability. For real high speed recording at the moment ( until newer, faster media comes out ) consider getting Ritek or Verbatim media as there respective 8x +/-R media are overspeeding nicely at 12x with no bad errors found. Please also be advised that we will be hosting an Official Traxdata/Ritek Europe forum in the next few days where if you manage to find any Ritek based media that does not perform well on the 108, then a member of the Traxdata /Ritek Europe support team will be on hand to help put forward your case to Pioneer |
