dvd editing

hello
i'm a completly newbe in dvd, but i would like to do one thing: to select video chapters from different dvd's (my brother in law converted all the old video material of my father on several dvd's and i promised somebody else to make her a dvd with a selection)
i've been trying to search on this forum for information how to do this and which (free) program to use , but a lot of things i don't understand, but it seems to me there must exist a simple program to do this;
can you please help me with some suggestions or solutions, i would be very gratefull if you could help me;
maybe i ask too much, if so excuse me,

Some freewares include DVD Styler, Titlewriter, and GUI for DVDAuthor. Don't know if this is simple for you. Alternative is to look for some sharewares, like TMPGEnc DVD Author, Nero Vision Express, etc.
