| I just got a PAL DVD and I want to convert it to NTSC. Maybe deleting a few things on the way. But I haven't found an easy way to do it. Does anyone know how to do this in a few steps ? I don't want to have to rebuild menus, VOBs, etc. Maybe this is a dumb question, but I've looked all over google, doom9, etc. and haven't found this. |

You could however modify a transcode utility. Everything has to be transcoded anyways. DVD Rebuilder should work. It utilises AVS and has a filter editor which should allow to modify it in a way that you can let it reencode the movies with NTSC specs. Usually DVD-player support NTSC as well as PAL playback, at least european models do. |

All you need is DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink both available from Doom9. First Rip the dvd to your HDD with DVD Decrypter and then use DVD Shrink to burn to DVD-R/+R disc. It doesn't get any easier. |

| I agree with above poster -- use DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink combo. Also, remember REGION -- if it's PAL, it's probably not Region 1 [US]. This software will take care of that as well, making your new DVD region-free. Another factor to consider is that the menus may be altered a bit going PAL-NTSC. I don't know if you can do anything about this. This has to do with "color interlacing." And, to make sure it works properly in NTSC version, you'll have to [duh] de-interlace. Like, with DVD Menu Studio: http://www.mediachance.com/dvdmenu/ That being said, I'd use above DVD Decrypter, BUT use it with another freeware product, VOB BLANKER. See details here on how to use: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207123 and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/167922 Finally, if you want to try, you can just use another freeware product, IFOEdit, and just simply edit the IFO files to trick your player into thinking it's NTSC when it's really PAL. This works "MOST of the time" -- I'd say around 90-95 percent. It's definitely not perfect, but it takes about 10 seconds to edit those IFO's then burn. If it doesn't work, you're out what, 50 cents? Better, buy some DVD-RW's so you won't have to toss those coasters. Again, you'll find full helps for IFOEdit at afterdawn.com & also over at videohelp.com. Here's the link for afterdawn: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207123 OK, one last "finally" -- once you've got the files ripped from the DVD to your HD, another product (shareware) you might want to try is DVD Santa -- it's a video converter-burner & can do PAL-NTSC. Decent jobs for the most part. On the whole, I'd opt for what's easiest to accomplish without messsing with having to re-convert the video files you already have. So, in order, I'd suggest as top two choices: IFOEdit DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink in combination with VOB Blanker Hope this helps! |

| I'd like to convert NTSC discs to PAL (I'm in the UK). I've used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to make copies, but I can't see how to make the conversion - NTSC discs seem to stay NTSC, and I can't find a menu option for this...? I'll check I've got latest versions, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful! Thanks Gonz |

| Here's a list of PAL <--> NTSC guides. I would use dgpulldown tool. btw, do not use the patch method in the list; it does not always work. |

| I used the suggestions to rip the pal dvd. I used dvd decrypter in file mode to create a directory with the pal dvd in it. I now have a video_ts folder with the ifo, vob and bup files. I used ifo edit to change the pal to ntsc values in all of the ifo files. now I'm not sure what to do. How do I burn a new dvd. I have dvd shrink and I also have nero 6. I would like to create a new dvd that is pretty much the same as the original with the same menus and such. I think it will fit on a 4.7GB disk. How do I create the dvd with dvd shrink or nero from the video_ts folder? |

|
|
| I have been trying all sorts of ways and programs to convert Pal to NTSC but in the end the best solution was to use Nero Vision 4. Slow going as there a numerous steps and you have to make your own menus but it does a great job of converting, very high quality. It even shrinks the files as required to fit the selected format. It does make a hash of imported titles etc, but like I said you can make your own with the tools provided. If the region coding/protection is a problem just run it through DVDshrink /decrypter first but leave the compression at 0% ( nero does a far better job of it ). |

| I have used a thing called Go-Video which is a little unit you connect in the video line from your vcr/dvd player to your tv or to your dvd stand-alone recorder. This thing will change PAL to NTSC on the fly and I use it to make copies of my PAL dvds or vcr tapes. I can only record the movie exactly as it is being played on the vcr or dvd, but that is not so terrible. I may have to give up having a way to add subtitles to what I watch on the recorded dvd, but that is not so bad to me as I get to at least watch the movie. I have looked to see if there is some way to use that simple conversion process within the files on my computer, but I have had no luck so far. |

| Hey everyone, I searched but I couldn't find the answer to my question. Is is possible to convert a PAL DVD to a NTSC DVD and still include all menus? I have found methods of doing this with movie-only rips (using the patch method or convertxtodvd), but I am trying to convert an entire dvd with menus and extras from PAL to NTSC. Thanks for any help you can provide! |

Hi everyone,
I'm running Intervideo WinDVD Creator v. 2.0.
I have already used it to convert a PAL DVD to NTSC. I ripped the DVD onto my hard drive using Copy DVD 123, but you could probably rip it using DVD shrink or DVD decrypter, etc. too.
I then burned it with the Intervideo WinDVD. It has the capability to select whether you want your DVD to be NTSC or PAL, regardless of the original. I know it works because I've already done it with no problems. I have a really finicky DVD player too. It won't play DVD-R's from some software, but it works with the Intervideo one.
Hope this helps!

This thread and post are old. But I encountered a need for this yesterday. I have and use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink3.2. The process did not work for me- 7 attempts. Two different people say that it does work. DVD Decrypter offers 3 modes for "ripping" - I tried them all. Usually use ISO. But for me DVD Shrink will burn only files that are ripped with the DVD Shrink. Shrink could not even find the files ripped with DVD Decrypter. Please give me in complete and fine detail the process that worked for you. |
