We found an older laptop here and installed CopyToDvD v.4 on it. The buttons and scheduler actually work properly on this one. So now we're stumped. We're comparing whats on it to the other 3 machines and have not really found much of a difference when comparing them all. The only difference is this machine has not been on our network, and has not had any Windows updates since June. We're going to put it on the network and update it and see if it still works. Trying to find the cause of our problems at least...

Ok here is what we've got so far. We got it to work on a laptop here, Win XP sp/2. But there are some quirks. If you log on as the local Admin, and create a task and run it. It works fine with both execution and scheduling. However, if we log onto the machine with a network login. An account that we've given full local admin access to. We have the same problem with where the scheduler won't work. And if you click the Execute now, it just doesn't do anything. Also, if you go back to logging in as the local admin. You'll now see 2 tasks. The one that was created while logged in as local admin, and the 2nd that you created when you logged in with a network login ID that has local admin priviledges. The task created by the local admin will still work normally, the 2nd one created by the network ID login does not and still has the same problem. So I feel we're narrowing this all down to some sort of rights issue. It still doesn't explain why the other 3 machines have the same issue logged in as the local Administrator or not, but we're still working on that.

Thats about where we're at now. Domain users it won't work for. I've given them local admin rights on the machine and even removed the network profile to see if that was doing something funky. Still not working. Local admin and users however it works fine.

Hey, If Domain1\User1 creates his OWN tasks, it doesn't work ? Or you created the ask using \Domain1\Admin_Account and then User1 it won't work ? Maybe for some reason it won't let you run someone else's tasks ! ? ! Phil said he might add a feature like some other software has: Run As: Username:_______ Password:________ to run this service/software Maybe this way it will have the proper authority to run it. Login as \Domain1\User1 Add the BackupScheduler icon to the desktop. Left - Shit and Right - Click use RUN AS: and select the local Admin account See if the Backup Now will go Wink It's gotta be a permission thing Evil or Very Mad Reading Material: How to troubleshoot scheduled tasks in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308558 Checking the Scheduled Tasks Log Scheduled tasks maintains a log file (Schedlgu.txt), in the c:\Windows folder. Stuff found on the net:

Make sure you specify username/password 2. Make sure you are using same account as what you logged in as. For example if you have logged in using Domain account, and if you use local account for scheduling it will not work. In this case use domain account to schedule. 3. If it still doesn't work, in scheduled task look at the error message. For certain types of error it says exactly what the problem is.
So I guess who ever creates the job, it's HIS no one else Smile

We tried to do that. Surprisingly that doesn't work. Here is some of the text from the task scheduler log. It certainly looks like some permissions are definitely not associating correctly. Question is why?

Yea we're pretty much stumped here at this point. Let me know if you find anything else out with your development team.

Hi, Phil said a fix is to be available soon. I assume he will add the Run Task As: and you can provide a Username/Password. Be sure, I will let you know as soon as a new build comes out !

Hi there, From what I can understand, this is how it works: [X] Run only when logged on It doesn't require a password since it will use the CURRENT account. And will NOT run if you are not logged in (Windows Login Screen) [ ] Run only when logged on You need to provide an account for the tast to run: User: \Domain1\TaskUser01 Password: Taskuser1_Password Will still run even if you are at the Windows Login Screen (Since Task Scheduler is a service, and now has credentials to run).

Ok, we got it working. Works great now. (I wasn't putting a check mark in the checkbox originally) One thing we noticed which may have originally been the problem. When you first create a task, it already has a machine name\user listed in the field. This is always the local machine name with the user you're logging on as. I think this is what was causing the problem, perhaps before Phil changed the exe. it was automatically trying to use rights of a local account name that we were not logged in as and in many cases didn't even exist. (Keeping in mind we log into our domain accounts) You may want to look at updating the version publically for future corporate use since the .exe I got from Phil fixes this issue. Other then that it looks like we have it working on all machines now. If I have any more questions I'll let you guys know. I appreciate the quick responses and help on this issue. You should be seeing the requests come in for our licenses within the next few weeks once our users receive their new machines from Dell. Thanks again. Regards, -Jason

Hi there, I'm happy this new build fixed the issue. CopyToDVD v4.0.0.38 still has a few minor issues to be fixed, so this new BackupSheduler.exe v2.0.0.31 will also be part of the new v4.0.1 (I assume) installer. So when a new version of CopyToDVD comes along, it will/should have the latest BackupScheduler.exe in the installer...
