|

Hello, I want to try CopytoDVD for dual layer disks... I was wondering how it handles the layer break. (3.1.3 trial version) If for example I backup a DVD-9 I own here, do I need to remove the layer break (for ex: with DVD Shrink or CLoneDVD w/ no compression) before burning with CopytoDVD? Some prople have suggested removing the break w/ shrink and have CopytoDVD place a new one. I would guess not if no material is removed, but what if I remove FBI warning, etc? The original layer break would not be at the appropriate spot. Will Copytodvd check the original layer break spot and reposition it if necessary? Or will it just simply burn the files, "a la Nero" ? I've tried googling, etc but there dosen't seem to be much info on this. I'd really like to get as much info as possible as I'm considering purchasing the software. I don't want to waste any expensive dual layer discs in testing!. So in short, what would be the procedure for: 1. burning dual layer disks with VIDEO_TS ripped and no material stripped. 2. burning dual layer disks from VIDEO_TS ripped, but with material removed. Thanks everyone!

CopyToDVD will always add the Layer Break for DVD Video on dual layer media. The layer break is determined by a set of rules. Some are mandatory, some are optional. CopyToDVD tries to determine the best match for the layer break. If a mandatory rule can't be followed, then a warning is issued in the log. If all the mandatory rules are applied, then just the Layer Break position is given. The rules are: * in a range of (dvd size /2) + 256 - max DL DVD size (mandatory) * on a 16 sector boundary (mandatory) * on a GOP boundary (mandatory) * on a cell boundary (recommended) * on the lowest possible bitrate near the layer break (recommended) * the nearer of a position so that the end data on layer 2 will be physically on disc at 4mm from the smallest inner radius (recommended for readability) To increase the number of possible matches or perfect the best match, CopyToDVD is able to add padding data invisible to the user but physically present on disc. With all this, CopyToDVD fully complies with the layer break decision rules as defined by Philips in document "DVD+R video format Specifications Version 2.1 - system Description" (July 2004)

if wanting to make a true one to one back up of a DVD, as far as my experience goes, and I've wasted those expensive discs, you want to keep the original layer break in tact (most sf chooses it's own which can cause problems w/ many DVD players) only thing I've found to be 100% succesful is clone CD by slysoft, rip to the the drive(ISO) and then burn. Assuming you own the video and using AnyDVD.

Hi there, If you are going to burn a Dual Layer .ISO I would upgrade to v4.0 v3.1.3 handle it's OWN layer break, but when burning an .iSO the original layer break support has been enhanced. So I was told, is this correct Portmac ?
