I agree, the book is poor. blAN, I assume means blank. The book says nothing about formatting. I found that the way to format is to do a 'manual', ie OTR (one time recording), ie not using the timer. This will work on a blank disc and as soon as something has been recorded, it is deemed to be formatted. Careful though, as soon as you delete everything from a disc it reverts to its "unformatted" status. This is why I always leave a recording of a couple of minutes on every disc. Hope this helps.

Hi folks.... HELP ! I've just got a DR-810, it's recording from the telly and the digi box without any problem. However, using the recorded DVD on a normal dvd player or my PC and I don't get playback. All I get on the DVD player is NO DISC and an empty folder on my PC. However putting the DVD back in to the DR-810 and I get playback with no problems... tried changing from YVL to RGB on both recorder and player... tried different types of DVD but with no luck. Tried talking to the help line and they said the recorded DVD should work on any player. Can anyone help please, do you think it's a back to the shop for a replacement moment ?

Ok, so hands up who knew the answer to this one ? I've just tried different types of DVD, it seems that if you want to just record stuff from your telly/video camera then use DVD+R if you want to share your DVD, so record on to DVD and use/show on a normal player or pc the use DVD+RW now I don't know whether this is the same for everyone but that seems to work for me. By-the-way, I've been on a little voyage of discovery with this new recorder, linking successfully to the digibox and recording from normal TV, camcorder, VCR and digibox. If I can help anyone please let me know. Email me. Cheers chaps Very Happy Oh one last thing, you may know this allready but just incase you have a problem that you can hear sound but no picture, and your scart leads are ok, then try the button called P/I it's located on the handset just under the edject (open/close) button. I'm sure you all know that, but hey even the simplest things can catch us out Embarassed

Been reading with interest Q and As regarding the Cello DR 810 DVD recorder, and have recently bought one. (or should I say someone bought it for me..). Since my only reason for purchase was to lift stuff from my SKY+ Box, it appears to be the ideal cheap solution. Apart from the less than helpful manual, it does more or less what it says on the tin - even go so far as to say it also records and plays back DVD-R format. Quality of recording seems pretty good, even to my tired old eyes although as has been previously stated, a midway quality recording between SP and EP would have been useful. The almost unreadable title menus superimposed over the Splash Screen are a nuisance but in my own case makes little impact since there are not usually more than two titles on any one recorded DVD. Regarding formatting, I haven't yet come across that problem as all my blank DVD R/Ws have been run through my PC more than once so I would assume that they are already formatted. If I do get a problem, then formatting can be similarly done. However, there are two things that are currently driving me up the wall!! Firstly is the machine's continual loss of picture when you switch it out of Standby ( As stated previously, the P/I button gets rid of the problem -WHY? and WHY should I have to do that every time??) and Secondly is once again the machine's "continual" switching of the TV to the Scart input to the Recorder. I see no way of overcoming this particular action other than to disable one of the control pins in the Scart Plug (anyone know which one I can chop without wrecking the operation of it??) Other than that I think it's good value for money as long as you can set it up without much reference to the manual, not using any helplines and not sending emails to the manufacturer ie Arlink in Taiwan - they get returned as undeliverable. Also written in Chinese!! cheers PT. Wink

Hi guys - pretty new to this game so bare with me as i have a silly question to ask - i have just purchased the cell dr 810 dvd recorder and was wondering do you have to watch the same programme you are recording or can you change the channels over? I tried recording something and changed the channel halfway through but when i played it back it changed with me??? Probably something to do with my setup i suppose - hopefully this is the case as it would be a bit of a waste of money if you cant record something on a different channel to the one you are watching. Any help would be great Smile

Set the TV channel on the DVD recorder that you wish to record. Press RECORD or Use a the TIMER setting. Then press TV on the Cello remote, which will allow you then to watch a different TV program while the DVD recorder records a different channel.

It plays pre- recorded discs well with a good picture and is an excellent price but the book is hard to follow Can anyone help. When you load a disc in it says blAN on the display with no explanation of what this means. Can anyone help plese?
