Hi mysty9999 and welcome to our forums it sounds like you either have had dma disabled on your drives or your Intel IDE driver is not liking convertx. Could you goto system>>device manager and check to see if any of your devices are stuck in PIO mode or not.. You can use this guide to find out how to enable DMA http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2763

Convertx should run fine on a p4 with 1 gb ram. Although it can use resources, it shouldnt turn ya desktop into silly colours . Are you running anything liek windows themes or windows blinds to enhance your desktop background and themes?

Hi again Smile I'm not sure about the window theme I do have the icons larger to be able to see them as I have macular degeneration and don't see all that great But I can memorize where they are and make them smaller again Would it do any good to uninstall convert x and then reinstall it do you think when I could see I could take my old computer apart and put it back together but lack of good eyes and the ever changing windows and things I am sort of lost Smile thanks again for you help and time Mysty

Hi there, In the settings, Encoding Tab, set the conversion priority to Normal or below. Try it at idle, meaning if there is any other tasks that need the CPU they will get the CPU time. It might help giving your other tasks more CPU time. Now for those audio missing, this is something with your input file. I have 1 or 2 files with those. I gues you got unlcuky getting 1 file with those issues Very Happy It may cause your DVD output to be a little out of sync. VSO is currently looking at some of those file, to see if they can change their software to limit the Out Of Sync issues when those badly encoded files are used. Hopefully in future versions this will no longer be a problem (But the engine will still warn you about those 00ms audio missing). I've been pretty lucky not getting too much of those, I've been 100% without issues with v2.0.9

Good to see that things work. Just to avoid similar problems in future, check that you have proper firewall (not windows default unless you are inside NAT), decent antivirus program (NortonAV for example), all sharing disabled (unless they are really needed for your network, even then use IPX sharing) and finally some antispyware like ex Giant now Microsoft Defender (free!) up and running. These steps will prevent most intruders from getting to your system. Then you should clean your system at least once a month, emptying temp-folder and trashcan and defragging drives. This keeps it running on top speed. If you have any questions about these, just ask!
