|
|
I am trying to find the fastest software to purchase that transfers (transcodes??) my DivX or avi files to DVD (.vob etc) files. Right now I am using a demo of DVD Santa and DvD copy 4, which both are simple to use, but take forever! I have about 40 hours of home video I am trying to clean up, and have it all stored in DivX and AVI format. I put about 2 hours into DVD copy 4 last night, which completely rendered the computer useless, and this morning it was at about 30% complete (8 plus hours later). Is there an easier way? Is there a faster way? Is there a way that uses less of my computer's resources? Loving to hear your responses. |

| Hi gbmgbm and welcome to our forums It all depends on system setup as to what speed you get. You wil need 1 gb of ram and a XP 2500 or pentium equivalent to get best speeds but you should stil manage a decent speed on a XP 1800 and 512 mb of ram. The best way to maximise encoding speed is to have 2 harddrives - one for the source and one for the destination as this stops many of the bottlenecks found during encoding. If you can give some system set up specs then perhaps we can see if we can improve your speed. I highly recommend trying ConvertXToDVD for your AVI to DVD needs as it can make a menu for you as well as encode and record, You can find the software Here and we have a dedicated support forum with many knowledgable members who can help with issues as well as the developers of the software. |

| Thank you for the info Sir! Here, to the best of my knowledge is what I am running P4, 1.6ghz 512 kb ram two hard drives - 80 and 120 I think CD burner and DVD burner other than that everything is quite "stock" - unit is an off-the-shelf HP Pavillion - One thing I am not is a computer guy! Hope that helps, and again thanks Moose |

Well that should be capable of encoding a bit faster than the times you are finding. XCan you try this: Defrag your harddrives put the source to be converted on your 80 gb drive and save it to your 120. This is the fastest method i know of. Make sure things like screensavers are disabled b4 starting and gve the convertx trial a go. And most importantly - good luck and let us know |

| Well you hit it on the head! This software actually works, and it works fast! I had some problems with the evaluation version, but once I paid for it it worked seemlessly - so far no coasters, and so far the worst time to convert and burn has been 2 hours and 10 minutes for about 90 minutes of video! Question for anyone, will this convert an Xvid movie (hollywood type release)??? |
