A couple of friends have asked me (talk of the blind trying to lead the blind!) if it's easily possible to transfer music cassettes and VHS video to CD and/or DVD. I found loads of places willing to do transfers for large fees but I'd imagine there are fairly inexpensive programs that will make it easy enough to accomplish this at home? I did find http://www.polderbits.com/ which appears to do what they want. If anyone knows of this software would they please rate it for me or alternatively recommend some better software etc? Thank you. Maxie

There are a couple I use to make transfers, for my cassette tapes and old vinyl I use Pyro 2003 by cakewalk, it can be as simple as plugging a sony walkman into the line in on your sound card, just saying how simple it is, I have an amp hooked to mine. and then Luckily my 9700 Pro AIW has the ability and hardware to connect a vhs video recorder to my computer, from there I can use the ATI software, Or my preference of Pinnacle studio 8, they also make a hardware solution as does Dazzle, so this should give you some starting points. I have put it simple for now.

I did this for a mate I transferred 18 tracks of a cassette and digitally remastered them. After this I cut each track and saved them as wav files, than made an audio CD and it worked great. Shame I took all me own hardware and software to his house did all the work and never got a thanxs for it. Once you have digitally remastered a tape to cd it becomes a natural inbuilt function, you never forget. Before I helped an ungratefull so called mate, it was back in 1996 when I picked up on this and thats almost 10 years ago Smile Greetz Intercept.....Very Happy

Hi Intercept! It sounds complicated but, as Dreamland is just a couple of miles south of Brighton & Hove why don't you pop round and show me the ropes? There's nothing like having a master to teach you instead of muddling around in the dark. I'll try and lay on the tea and biscuits as you seem to have a long memory! Wink Maxie PS I'm glad you live in Dreamland and not Neverland. Smile

If one has a large MPG file on the harddrive, is it possible to burn it to a DVD that will play in a home DVD player? It would be neat to archive my home movies to DVD but I don't have a clue where to start to get a DVD that will play. Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks, videoman45

Has this is MPEG based, ive moved it to the right forum. In answer to your question videoman, yes you can.. You can try a freeware product called dvd2svcd ( www.dvd2svcd.org ). or simply search our products pages for plenty of software that can do it for you:)
