Sometimes I whis to completely re-author a DVD, because it's easier (for me at least) to re-author than to use tools as DVD-REMAKE-PRO. Also I want things that cannot be done in DDV-REMAKE-PRO, such as new menu background pictures en buttontext. But the problem is still a good subripper. As far as I understand the subtittle on a DVD is just a bitmap that's displayed, so no real text with font/size atrributes. Now I use SUBRIP, it works but you cannot trust it. Even after finetuning and using advanced OCR settings, it still has difficulties with I and L etcetera. Even some lettercombinations are seen as 1 letter an you cannot change that. And letters as ï ë é è are a real pain in the ..... The result of subrip is strongly dependent on the kind of biymap used for subtitling, but you have always to do manually adjustments. And walking through a 2 hour subtitled movie , isn't one of my favourite things to do So does anybody know of a subtitle ripper that has better OCR capabalities or better quality performance than SUB RIP ???? It doens't have to be freeare, but schould not cost as much as the software CCE-encoder (1995,- Dollar !!!). Anybody any advise on this ? Thx in advance. |

Why use OCR, just rip them as graphical outputs (in other words .bmp). That will give you a whichever format you want without the OCR failures. At least, I assumme you mean you also want the original subs back on the disc, otherwise why worry about OCR failures. And DvdReMake is the ultimate subtitle addition tool if you want the disc to be something else then movie only. Every method that uses IfoUpdate sux Take a look at: http://cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3142&highlight= |

| Because I use DVD-LAB-PRO as authoring tool, I cannot handle 'graphic subtitling'. DVD-LAB-PRO wants tekst and timing information as far as my limited knowledge is concerning. I have read something about importing bitmaps but that didn't work for me. Have that to try also. But I also want to be able to edit the tekst, and surely that's not possible with a bitmap. So, I still want to have a tekst file with timing info that I can use. |

| Well, then you are very limited in your options. Subrip is the best there is. Although I like the OCR of the older versions better, because you can manually select the ocr criteria. |

| Well, I have seen SUPRIB kan rip images (*.BMP) biut then I get images with all the wrong colors for DVD-LAB-PRO. You can set colors manually but I don't know how ? You have to enter values between 0-15 for the colorss too. he q Then the problem is I get a directory full of BMP images, but i have no timing information. So if I use SUBRIP how can I get it compatible with DVD-LAB-PRO, that's the wuestion. SUBRIP has some predfined formats for some prgramms , but DVD-LAB-PRO dtangely isn't one ogf them. I was capable of getting timmed text however. But due to OCR restrictions of SUBRIP you all have to check them manually. That's a crime to do. So a solution using BITMAPS with TIMING and the correct COLORS and the correct IMAGE RESOLUTION (width*height) would be greatly appreciated. I can get a timed textfile with OCR, but it SHOULD be possible to handle bitmaps. But nowere I cab find info about this topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated..... Toine. |

| Just rip it the same way. Save the timing afterwards like you do with OCR (bottom section). And don't worry about the colors. The timing file will have the original clut mapping in there, so everything should work out without a problem. Placing can be changed at the cropping tab once you start ripping. |
