I have only had my MCE 2005 for a week now and slowly picking up on tips and tricks on the best ways of doing things in MCE. That seems to change weekly...so lets just say this weeks project Wink. I have read some that you can write a small file, certain extension, certain location for it to work in MCE. Well what about having Copy2DVD UI dvreen pop up when you choose to record 1 of your recorded tv shows and burun it also using nothing but the remote control. All the settings could be done and set, no need to be able to see it far a way. I bought the arcsoft QuickDVD today and got the extensions too from them, installed, and in a couple of clicks I was making my dcd a;; with my remote. Tired of building them guys, retired, not dead...so I dove in and got an intel 630 extreme dual 3.0ghz , 2 meg L2 cache, 1 gig ram, put in 4-250 sata's, Intel's 900 7.1 HD audio, ati x700 psie, ati hdtv wonder and pvr-500mce...still got things to work out, I had to add a bit more toys to my original purchase. DVI 'ed to a Syntax Olivia 30" LCD media monitor. Now how about some of you hot shot SDK users, I am sure a MCE extension pack for Copy2DVD would be doable, what do you guys think? You know, the main UI almost looks like it belongs in a MCE 2005. ScadaRick

it's an idea, but I would need to have live discussion with you to define and understand what it is possible, I don't have a MCE 2005 yet.

I have a couple of questions about this if I may ask. 1) does the arcsoft convert the *.dvd-ms to another file format? If so what? 2) if it doesn't convert the file format, does it play in your set top dvd player? 3) I've been using MCE 2005 since it came out, so far the biggest problem has been finding something that will convert the *.dvr-ms to a dvd compliant file to save on a dvd to play on a set top dvd for later, will the arcsoft handle it? I have found one application that does convert *.dvr-ms to a dvd video compliant file and rather quickly too, less than 15 minutes total for a one hour show, my main thing is the software needs to convert the file to dvd compliant, right now it requires two applications.

So far, I have revorded a couple of tv stargate epi's..did not check to see what all it did and if even let you keep any of the files converted. I do know it makes a hidden temp directory to work...but mines been clean. I must admit though...it does makes dvd's, menu's , chapers...but little choices...but I am very impressed with what is starting to come out,,,1 more idea gives another ...another idea and it just keeps rolling...I am looking forward to see how this goes. I went out and bought a 42" lcd sony wega tv just to get ready, now I am running Dlink on home built and media center on bough gateway on another source...both extenders atre working great on tv. Tivo on streroids as I call it...a few teribits of space, recording so easy I forget I set most to just record anytime, anywhere...so cool to check the next day and see the MCE has been buys. and the tv had nothing to do with it...so cool....right...BTW..I am hardwared...using a 3-com 18 port multi switch running the 2 other netwrok routers...on a 8mg cable network....so far, its been balanced...but sometimes I can pushg it, looking for ways to see it and learn to tweak...but I will always have. sorry for the long post...but I am very happy with my new setup...I just cant stop talking about it...the new car thing will wear off in time. rick ScadaRick

I am looking ever over the MCE layout and how they are done and I tell you...I am having trouble just finding out how they really do this. Its just something I did not design,...so I will have to break it done some...I would think though I could send you an sdk or spomething...technet should have everything you need to do the extender plugins the right way...I have 14, but only 3 show up in my living room extender...I not sure why...could use a few...even though the compter is in my office. I do a lot of beta's, retired, now..so always looking for some thing to kep busy and in the game...so I would be happy to help if I can. Rick ScadaRick

http://tv.msn.com/tv/signup/?redirect=http%3a%2f%2ftv.msn.com%3a80%2ftv%2fguide%2fDefault.aspx%3f Here is a plug-in so that if you are away from the house and near a computer and if you think you forgot to set MCE to record something this application will let you do it, remotely. How about tweak MCE http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9C02F0A8-8525-4110-AAA8-36AA8AEBF2AF&displaylang=en (same thing as power toys only for MCE) I've got a few more links if interested? I'm with you tho, MCE opens a whole lot of possibilites that developers are not taking advantage of, and thats a hard fact too.

Yeah...they do have some toys out so far. and yes I have about 12 or so, only my ati and something else shows up in the extender. Thats the part I would like to look into. I ubderstand that a comp may be needed at the point of entry for most to work and the extender can only supply some of the internal functions that are usefull to the extender. This makes since...but how about the MCE extender plugin that allows you to make changes to your recordings and drives. I really need thatr plugin to work on the extender. I have 4-250 sata's in my gateway 832GM, its an itel 630 (dual), 3.0gHz comp. All I did was add a few things...ATI X700pro pcie, have a hdtv wonder, but waiting for my digital cable box with dvr monday, they brought me the HD-cable box thrusday and I am using it now in the living room, but I would like the HD-DVR in there instead. My MCE does most of my recordings, but its nice to have another option to dvr something else locally (living room) instead of my home office. I have another teribit comp that is my home grown pvr, has all the toys on it, basiclly its my test system and main work while I am in here. My MCE comp seems to be always asleep in here, but in the living room, its always hopping. I just added my msn music and Music Jukebox, (my fav), have to download a few additional items, not sure what yet, it does not show you, but it makes it work in my MCE extender just great. Thats the only 2 music places I sub too. MMJB has it all anyway (Music Match Juke Box) I am a classic rock fan and there is nothing these people dont have that I can find...they even had music I have totally forgotten....how about Norman greenbaum...spirit in the sky...alomost died hearing that...reminds me of a few cheerleaders over 30 years ago....yep a late 60's and 70's kid. did the vietnam thing too...MARINES. Well better run, trying to program this harrmony 680 remote for everything, not as easy as it sounds, but it does do what they say....it does amazing things with 1 push, its just that 1 piush I am trying to get right. see ya'

The XBox extender is 80.00 and does what others do, it makes the Xbox the media center, remote and all, brings MCE to any tv that the Xbox is connected to, no need for the high priced items, has a remote, thats controls the MCE thru the Xbox. I'm in my mid 40's but the XBox extender is cheaper than buying A whole media extender, the ones i've seen are about 250.00. All in all my extender was 81.00. they will look at your suggestions to see the feasability, but MCE isn't all that popular just yet, so it could take a little time to work it out. Oh yes and believe it or not the XBox does HD.

I just dont get into the games so much any more, so xbox just did not come to mind on thius issue. I did get my motorola 6214 dual tuner HD box with 120 gig hard drive. I have been busy rewiring and doing some backups of my main work comp, before I tear it down for its overhaul. Still not sure how I am going to do this comp...I have to have my everyday toys, from scanners to cameras..to everything I have to do in office 2003. Not to meantion all of my video and audio tools I use. I have been droping most and keeping it down to cyberlink mainly, already own all there stuff anyway...have nvidia's too. about 10 or so pvr type systems too, but I use gspot and many other tools to play and learn, but I think I am going to set my work comp up for working of course, but find a few good pvrs and stick with them for a while...I want to try a few things on down the raod with thos media center extenders ans smart cards as well as cable cards, my isp already has them, but to early to mess around with, so I think I will play with thee toys and HD I have for now. I really do like this media center and can not wait for newer exrensions, programs and who know what else these things will evolve into. Little peices of the puzzle seems to be poping up at MS and it just leads me to think a bigger game plan is in the works, intergration or bloatware what ever you want to can it, is going to get much more enjoyable. I am looking around at some forums on xbox and mce as we speak, looking for the bad as well as the good of it all. I am even thinking of getting a rack of hard drives that are in nice cases that sit out in your living room, either giga newtork or wifi....no wifi for me...bluetooth is as far as I am going right now with that....I like in an apt...sometimes when I boot up./...I can see others in my computer....odd...so I took out my dlink wireless I was using for my dlink media box..at least for now...I have a good hard wired net here anyway....3com switch, 8 port linksys router, then my cable modem...so I think I have control of it. So far everything is working great, the hanony 680 remote is not. I want it to control my media center of course, but adding my msntv2, my dlink, a sony 5-disk player a motorola hd-dual channel reciever and a 1000 watt RCA amp and tuner....81 pounds of noise....its old, but stilll cranks. How abot the cyberlink cinema with tv, is it any good, looked at mdeia portal last nigh...while trying to update this harmony remote...I think I should get another model, one that can handle my devices the way I want them...the tech tried online adding the associated activities, but it just made things more confussing for me.....I think I will just put in a season of Voyager and play and learn the systems, all 8 remotes in there for now...its mainly the small stuff really, I think a little ir training is in order. anyone here have any suggestions on remotes for controling every kind of electronics you can add, and still run you media centers OK. BTW. not sure if it was here, some one said they could not get the media keyboard shortcuts to work with mce, not sure why, but mine is working now for some odd reason,,,not complaining...use bluetooth on work system, media center prety much just sits and sleeps. I am testing some of the tools around at the green button, dont want to mess up the meta info in dvr-ms files....welll more to learn....great fun huh...look at the time....I thought it was a boy midnight....long past that see ya guys...nice chatting...and thanks for the headsup on the xbox....is there any model I should get, besides the extender model...what I mean is...like a gold version, something like that..sorry, I have not looked to much, mainly whiul eI am here.
