Columbia TriStar and Sony Pictures plays a hidden "Interview and Commentary" video clip in the subtitles just before the movie and if altered or deleted can cause some standalone DVD player(s) not to be able to play a (-R) disk at all or hang/freeze when it reaches the video clip. If you have experienced this problem as I have, there is a very simple fix for it. Click on links below: Added by DimadSoft: Here is the same guide located at dimadsoft server to save Mr_Fixer some traffic: http://www.dimadsoft.com/other/ak/Commentaries.htm and a link to replacement cell used in the guide: http://www.dimadsoft.com/other/ak/BlankClip.zip

Are you saying the "hide block" way made your discs crash? Done that numerous times to this sort of content, and never had any problems with it. And probably so have others.

Sometime, somewhere (probably at doom9) there was a dicussion that some players may have problems with short cells. But somehow that subject died away.

I am using a Sony NS715P player and regardless of what re-authoring software I use if the commentaries are deleted and replaced with a short cell my player will not play the (-R) disk. I get a "Cannot Play Disk" error. I can however use IfoEdit and edit the playback of the commentary cells and it will play fine by skipping over the cells, but by doing this, my Magnaxox and GE player(s) hang and freeze up when I play the disk edited with IfoEdit. The disk that I deleted the cells in and want play in my Sony will play fine in my Magnavox and GE. Kind of a catch 22! So I have found by replacing the commentary cells with a 142kb blank video/audio clip that only has a playback of about a second will work fine in all my player(s). I figured I can't be the only person who has had this problem and since I use DRMPro on all my DVD re-authoring I would pass on what works for me.

I have made many DVD's also by hiding cells and I don't have problems either. It is only on the ones that have the hidden commentary cells before movie playback and now since I have come up with a fix that works on all my player(s) and I don't have to listen to the kids anymore that it want play, I'm happy Laughing

I am having problems removing the interview and commentaries in Tears of the Sun by Columbia pictures when backing up my DVD I have DVD remake pro and I understand that the blurb is contained in the subtitles but not matter what I try I can't pinpoint the 4 seconds of unecessary text just after the PLAY MOVIE is selected and the sun goes down. I believe the movie to start at Video Title Set to be 5 and Program Chain 1 Cell 1, there is 4 seconds of the Interview and Comentaries just before this that is not linked to the Video Manager Titles Please help how do I find the correct cell where this subtitle is attached to

Hi Spideray, welcome to our forums! Try look for it in the Video Manager tree. If not there, then it's in one of the VTSs, or you can start tracing from the Play button command. Once found, hide it and make sure you have Auto Bypass option on.

I'm assuming the problem only occurs when you hide those particular cells, and not when you hide other cells. Yes? If so, could you name a couple of readily available DVDs that contain these problem cells? Paul

Paul, Wow, it's been like a year ago I posted my findings, if I remember "Radio" region 1 was one of the titles. Cheers Very Happy

Thanks for you help I still had major problems finding that scarlet pimpernel of a subtitle until that is... "They seek him her they seek him there that damned elusive pimernel...." Then I had a stroke of luck whilst surfing the glorious web I found a little application called Subrip at this URL http://membres.lycos.fr/subrip With this little proggie you can easily find out which VTS the subtitle text is hidden within and hide it in DVD remake pro I have also been sucessful in removing (hiding) these blocks by using this process if this is done after the decrypting stage and before the shrink/clone stage that way your cloned DVD has more room for the good stuff like the movie and no space for annoying 5 to 20 seconds of changing VTS before you can watch it..
