| Hi, I am in need of help. Got a Dual 3.2 Xeon workstration that I would like to use to convert some music videos before I burn them off to a DVD. So far I havent been able to find any encoders that could utilize my system to full potential. Anything out there that could work? Thanks |

| Hello Spart, Welcome to the forums! That's a good question. I'm currently building a dual Athlon system and was going to look into this myself. There is Canopus Pro Coder 2, which us supposed to have multi-processor and hyper-threading support. I'm sure there are others. |

| So far I've been using a great prog: http://www.aoamedia.com/videoconverter.htm but that thing so far doesnt support MP systems, and it either a hit or miss. Nero has NeroVision Express 3, but that thing does more locking up (or it likes to ACT like it's doing something) on 3 PCs I've tried it on. I've tried DVDShrink to rip a DVD on the MP sytem, and it was not even comparable to my stand alone 2.4Gb box. Wish more developers would add the MP support to apps, especially something that's this CPU intensive. |

I wasn't aware that it did. | Spart wrote: | | Wish more developers would add the MP support to apps, especially something that's this CPU intensive. | I agree. So far the only apps that I've used that effectively utilize MP's are CAD apps. I would think that MPEG encoding should benefit from MP's because of all of the DCT calculations. The biggest bottleneck is probably the hard drive though, due to the large amount of data written. I have tested TMPGEnc on my server that has fast SCSI drives and it is about 15-20% faster than the computer that I usually do my encoding on, which is, other than having IDE drives, is the same computer. I found this article about media apps and MP and HT in my history: http://developer.intel.com/technology/itj/2002/volume06issue01/art05_mediaapps/p06_results.htm |
