Hi! I used ConvertX many times in the past and had no problems with it. Now I'm trying to convert two 800MB Avi's to DVD5 and the resulting Video_Ts folder is about 4.69GB in size. Too big to burn this to DVD with Nero. Any idea why ConvertX is creating vob's that total more than the target size for a DVD5? I never had this problem before. Btw, I'm using the current 2.0.13 release. Here's the resulting VIDEO_TS folder: 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 6,144 VIDEO_TS.BUP 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 6,144 VIDEO_TS.IFO 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 71,680 VTS_01_0.BUP 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 71,680 VTS_01_0.IFO 07/01/2006 11:35 PM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_1.VOB 07/01/2006 11:35 PM 1,073,709,056 VTS_01_2.VOB 07/01/2006 11:35 PM 371,171,328 VTS_01_3.VOB 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 75,776 VTS_02_0.BUP 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 75,776 VTS_02_0.IFO 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 1,073,709,056 VTS_02_1.VOB 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 1,073,709,056 VTS_02_2.VOB 07/02/2006 12:55 AM 375,095,296 VTS_02_3.VOB Any help is appreciated. Hi there, Here's an answer I have received from the Author of ConvertXtoDVD:
Quote:
Hello, there is sometimes some video that doesn't accurately report their duration - they report to be shorter than they actually are. This confuse the algorythm of optimal bitrate determination, making decide a too high bitrate, thus will end up with a size that will not fit. Right now setting an alternative duration for video that doesn't report accurate duration is not possible, however in a future release, we will open this setting. One can still find a solution by setting a custom value smaller than DVD-5 capacity as target size. In the case of this sample, set 4200 Mb should be OK.

Thank you for your reply! I examined the converted video a little closer and it seems that half way through the first avi file, the program started at the beginning of this file again. So instead of converting the entire avi, it converted the first half twice for some reason. The avi plays fine all the way through in Power DVD 5 and for test purposes, I ran it through another avi/dvd converter which didn't have a problem either. For some reason, ConvertX doesn't like that file. Go figure.. But it's no big deal since it did a great job on many other projects. Very Happy

Read FAQ; there is more about this issue. It happens with some LONG files, but it is mostly fixed now. Check that your drives are all in NTFS format. Using FAT32 will produce this sometimes.

Which FAQ are you refering too? This one? http://www.vso-software.fr/faq.php#technical That FAQ doesn't really address the problem I'm having.

As I had mentioned, I was using two 800MB files.

Yes, they're all NTFS formatted. Cool

I'm referring to FAQ on this forum - one you should have read already. http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1826

I had read *that* FAQ as well and I still didn't find anything in there that would help me resolving or even understanding the problem I had encountered. Could you enlighten me to where in *that* FAQ this particular circumstance is covered? Frankly, I don't thing that you've even bothered reading my comments thoroughly enough to have a good understanding of the situation. I.e. you mentioned a potential problem with large files, while I had clearly stated that none of the files were bigger than 800MB. You consider that to be large files? FYI, I converted my material to a DVD5 just fine with WinAVI. Not a problem.

If you had read tha tfaq properly youd noticed topic about big files; they had that same problem you had - conversion started looping instead of finishing properly. This was common with large files, but main point was FAT32. Another thing mentioned is problems with microsoft formats - your file is using that.

Again, you are not listening. This is not an issue of large files nor is this a FAT32 issue. Your reference to the FAQ is completly useless. And what is the "microsoft format" ? Most video files are encoded with codecs like Xvid, Quicktime, etc. Completly independent of the operating system. WMA would be a Windows based codec, Xvid or Quicktime are not. You are wasting my time, Sir!

Seriously ? Seriously? Smile Take a look at this line from your log file :
Code:
7/1/2006 10:20:45 PM info Stream #0 - Video: msmpeg4, yuv420p, 640x352
and now go to Google and query about msmpeg4 to learn a little bit about "microsoft format". So who is not listening ? Smile [/b]

WinAVI converted my files without a problem. Very Happy WinAVI fortunatly handles these exotic "mircosoft format codecs" somewhat better than ConvertX. Thank God! Now I can go on with my life. Thanks everyone for the great help!

I seriously doubt that your files can be converted ok - there are odd problems even on your log. Check for conversion time after last chapterpoint, it should be same or less than time taken to convert between any two chapterpoints. By the time taken after last chapterpoint it seems that your videos are much longer than what header reported (about 60 minutes each). If they really are only that long, then there is something else preventing CxD from finishing it's task. (as after video is finished it will write equivalent ifos etc.) Anyway, if you are happy with some other software, good for you.
