| Hi to all, I have been using 1 Click to DVD with AnyDVD and was having hit and miss luck with good burns. It seemed about half of my disks became coaster. I contacted 1 Click to DVD to resolve the problem and they suggested getting the updated version of Copy to DVD which I did and the first half dozen burns were flawless. Then suddenly and without explaination I started getting the following error: Write error at 48 (16) - Code 15 21 00 [Illegal request, LBA out of range] Now I've made 13 coasters with my last 15 attempts. I thank you in advance for any help I can get from you. Shawn |

| Hi, This is the last version of CopyToDVD. We could call it a work in progress version. But if you would like to give it a try it may resolve your problem http://vso.nerim.net copytodvd3SE.exe claire |

| Hi Shawn - I have run into the exact same problem -- same error message, etc. -- I have not been able to get to the bottom of it. Did you ever resolve it? I don't see any responses posted to your query. I would be extremely interested if you were able to resolve this. Thanks! Joyce |

Hi there, | Quote: | | 3/16/2006 1:15:18 PM info Writing device used : 1:0:0 - SONY DVD RW DRU-800A KY01 [D] (Ide) | Your burner is 6 firmware revisions behind ! KY06 is available here --> http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/downloads/800FWKY06/800A_KY06.zip I would definitly start with the firmware upgrade. Are those DVD-R 16x media ? A firmware upgrade will make your drive recognize new media (Media IDs). |

| No, the writable DVD media that I am using are DVD -R 1x to 8x manufactured by SONY Corp. I am using a SONY burner, so I'm not inclined to believe that it is an issue of the burner "not liking" the media. I have had some good burns using this media. It is only recently that I have been encountering this error message and I seem to run into problems with some of the more recent releases. I purchased my SONY burner only 6 months ago and have been able to make numerous successful copies and burns. The burner is 16x, but I set it to run at 2x as this was a suggestion for obtaining more reliable results. It is only recently, that I have been encountering this "Error Message". I will, however, upgrade my firmware, if you think that I am 6 revisions behind. Does anyone actually KNOW what that error message means? There seem to be the whole standard list of suggestions and things to do when encountering issues with burning, but I have not seen anywhere a statement of what that particular message actually means: i.e. "LBA out of range." What does that mean? Several users are encountering the exact same message, and all of the suggestions for dealing with the issues are the same as on the FAQs, i.e.: Make sure your DVD burner is clean, make sure your media is of good quality, make sure the DVD you're copying is clean, make sure DMA in disabled, make sure your firmware is up to date, etc. But what does the error message "LBA OUT OF RANGE" mean? Does any one know? Thanks for your suggestion. I will definitely look into the firmware upgrade! Did you see anything else in my log that would suggest what the problem is??? Thanks again for all your help and suggestions! Joyce |

| "5 21 00 Logical Block Address Out Of Range Indicates either a hardware problem or a software defect." The rest of the error codes you will find here: http://www.cdr-zone.com/articles/atapi_error_codes_page_1.html Notice you also have other errors also. Sometimes errors like these happen when your burner maybe be too hot. I also suggest updating your firmware. But what means is your burn connected to your computer? Have you changed the cables? also, why would you want your DMA disabled? I really think it should be enabled, you might want to try and see if a burn goes better with your DMA enabled: http://www.portmac.com/modules.php?name=Check_Enable_DMA |

Hi Claire, | Quote: | | 3/16/2006 1:15:20 PM info DMA Disabled | Holly molly ! How could I have missed this ? Anyway, I still would upgrade the firmware, and Enable DMA. I'd put money that this will fix the issue. |

| Thanks, Everyone! My problem has been resolved: 1. I updated the firmware as you suggested. 2. Regarding DMA: Although my settings showed that DMA was enabled, the log, as you observed, indicated that DMA was disabled. I learned from one of the links that you sent me that Windows XP actually changes the DMA settings after a 6 (six) failed data transfers. When I looked at the settings in Device Manager, they were correct, even though the log said that DMA was disabled. I had to uninstall and reinstall the IDE controller to fix this. 3. Prior to all of this, my hard drive storage was very full from temp files that I could not see (only 9 GB out of 60 GB showed as free space). Through a link of Dell's support page, I was able to get rid of the temp files and freed up 45 GB. I don't know for sure if this free space issue was the original cause of my burning failures. But in any case, all of these things are fixed now, and I am able to make perfect copies once again. So thank you everyone for all of your good help. And I hope that my report here helps someone else. Joyce |
