Hello! After seeing a friends small-footprint install of CopyToDVD, I decided to ditch Nero [613MB uninstalled!] and try CopyToDVD on my Win98SE machine. It installed fine; all shortcuts, menus, program groups...But when I click on the icon, or on the executable, I get the "Program Launched" sound from Windows, but the program won't launch...No error msgs, no window, nada... Is there something I am missing??? (This is a bare-bones install of 98SE; no options)... Trying it with a brand-new Sony DRU-710A and ForceASPI 4.60 installed; all check out good...

Have you tried uninstalling the software using Windows Add/Remove programs and rebooting, then reinstall the software. The latest release can be downloaded from www.vso-software.fr/download.htm Also if you have any popup blockers active try turning them off.

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen! No pop-up blockers; no AV [on this partition]. I will try uninstalling & re-installing. I did have one comment from another Forum: The DRU-710A [brand new] I installed is listed as Win 2000/WinXP *required*...No mention of Win98... Can anyone confirm or deny that the DRU-710A *won't* work under Win98 with CopyToDVD??? I can "borrow" an MSI DR16-B that is currently running CopyToDVD under Win2000 and works fine (don't know what version)...and try CopyToDVD here with that...

No, but I will tonight. I hope all the previous installs did not "time out"... I still have the same problem with the MSI burner [DR16-B]. Also, after "un-launching", the app tried to dial out...There is also a "crash.log", but there is nothing in it... I will trash this version and download the new one... Confused

OK, I had a chance to try out v3.0.42 today... After installation, icon was added to desktop, and prog welcome screen launched...I got a green and blue Welcome screen; I selected data CD/DVD, and got another screen - Create Data CD/DVD...I clicked that selection, got the familiar MS "Tada!" sound [means the app has launched], but nothing happened... So, I selected Settings/Writing Engine, CopyToDVD Settings, and selected that..."Tada!", and no launch... The program keeps trying to connect to the Internet when I uninstall it; it also adds a directory to my C:/ drive called "PCSetup", with a "crash.log"...And nothing usable in it...Just ******* symbols... Tried uninstalling and installing again, same results... So...Is there some program or DLL that CopyToDVD requires that I may not have installed in this bare-bones Win98SE install??? I do have ForceASPI 4.60 installed, and am now using the MSI DR16-B DVD dual-layer burner...or hope to...It reads CDs OK...

I'm not sure if you've ever used copy to dvd before so I threw this together, it does contain errors, but not any that will stop you from completeing what you are trying to do, if you follow it it should get you famaliar with Copy To DVD well enough to do at least a data disk. http://www.thechaosmaker.com/Copy_to_DVD/Copy%20to%20DVD.htm give it a shot.

Thank you for replying, and also for the quick-tutorial! I have used CopyToDVD before, a friend has it on his PC, and I've used it for both CDs and DVDs. It's an older version, and I don't have use of it at will, which is why I bought my own DVD burner & am trying to get CopyToDVD to work on my Win98SE PC (his has Win2000 on it). In your tut, I get the first two screens you show, but that's as far as I get. The "job screen" never appears (is it CopyToDVD Manager?)... I use 800x600 resolution; is it possible that 3.0.42 appears off-screen??? IOW, is it for a default 1280x843 res or something???

It connects to the net to check for updates, and as far as resolution goes, it shouldn't be off screen.

Thanks for trying to help, but I don't understand what you're saying here. I also uninstalled 3.0.42, so I don't have that directory anymore. I can try installing it again, but what text am I supposed to be copying and pasting and where would I find the job start and job end??? If this whole business is baffling, then please disregard. Sad

Yes, install the newest version again, then make sure you restart, after restart try to start the application (CopytoDVD) if it doesn't start browse to the above location and look for the text document you'll see it in the location I specified, if you open the text document you will also see report session closed, but if you just try to run once then only one instance will be in the text document. then I want you to go start/all programs/vso/drivers and then check and post those results also.

OK, installed 3.0.42, re-booted. Clicked desktop icon, first two screens illustrated in your tut appeared. Nothing further. Clicked on Create Data, no further screens. Looked in Program Files/vso/copytodvd, there is no c2cd text file. Only text file is c2cdlicense.txt and release_readme.txt. Driver/Check is - Patin-Couffin driver ready & active # of host adapters found: n/a # of devices found: 2 Sorry to be such a pita... Sad

Allright, you'll have to give me an hour or two, I will need to install 98 SE to see if I can duplicate the problem, please list your system specs to include the software and updates, thanks.
